Clachan has suspended its activities and is no longer pursuing the Knowetap St site

Clachan Cohousing Mutual Home Ownership Society Limited was registered with the FCO, the Financial Conduct Authority in January 2021. Clachan Cohousing Mutual Home Ownership Society Limited is now a member of CCH, Confederation of Cooperative Housing.

Knowetap Site

In 2018 we developed an outline feasibility study with the support from the National Custom and Self Build Association and the Right to Build Taskforce. This has been updated and can be viewed by clicking on the link. (Opens in new window.)

We are now putting legal and financial details in place to set up a legal structure to carry out the plan which would create 22 low impact, low energy homes with some shared facilities such as a launderette, a common house for meeting and eating and space to grow some food.

The Knowetap Site

We have considered various plots of land proposed to us by Glasgow City Council. This has led us to a site situated near Gilshochill Station with good bus links to the city centre and Partick. This site has a lot of attractions for us in addition to the good transport links. It has open space with good light, space for growing food and a wooded area at the back. Glasgow City Council, who from the outset, have been supportive of the idea of a Cohousing Community in the North Maryhill Area, is working with Clachan to secure this site for the co-housing project.

Zoom Meetings

In the interim, our core group of ten people carries on with the tasks needing to be done and we now we meet via Zoom.

We have continued to discuss and develop work around the architecture and design elements of the project and have agreed to incorporate Permaculture Design into the build.
